Race Report by Chris Nielsen |
|
The fourth round of the DRCMU series was held on the 28-29 of November, and was hosted by the Djurs RC Racing Club. The facilities were top notch, the track was fast and flowing, and had a very good level of grip. The organizers had done a very good job, and deserves credit.
I was competing in the 17.5 Blinky class, which had a total of 17 entries. Not a huge number compared to usual, but all the top guys except 1 was attending this race.
During Saturdays practice, I quickly found a setup that I liked, and only made some minor changes to my gearing and tire prep. I had some very good runs, and felt very comfortable going in to Sundays race.

On Sunday morning we had 2 timed practice sessions which would determine the seeding order for qualifying. I managed to grab the top spot, with a 1.1 second margin down to second place.
Qualifying went very well. I TQâ™ed all 3 rounds, and also posted the fastest time of the weekend with a 12.944 in Q1

I had a relaxed and optimistic feeling going in to the mains, and I was leading A1 comfortably until a marshal by accident placed a car in front of me, which caused me to crash. Although still in the lead, my rhythm was gone, and I had Bjarke breathing down my neck. I then hit a curb, flipped the car, and Bjarke was quick to capitalize on my mistake. I pushed, and caught him again, and we changed places a couple of times, but he ended up taking the win. |

In A2 I had everything to win and nothing to lose. I pushed hard from the beginning to build up a gap down to the rest of the field, and from there I raced a smart race, and stayed out of trouble. I managed to win A2 with a 7 second gap down to Bjarke, and my winning time was 5 seconds quicker than his in A1.
A3 was to determine the winner, and only Bjarke and myself was in contention at that point. I made a good start, and lead from start to finish to take home the overall win. I again raced a smart race, and did what I could to stay out of trouble, and it payed off yet again. All in all a very satisfying race, and my XRAY T4 performed flawlessly the whole weekend.
